Introduction to the Breed

In 1998 my sister, Karmen Klanac, and I were looking to find the perfect dog to live with us when we went off to college. After months of reading books and surfing the Net, Karmen discovered the Papillon, a small dog who excelled in agility, was highly intelligent, very affectionate, and suffered from few hereditary conditions. It was the perfect breed or us!

It took us over ten months to finally bring home our first Papillon, Gabriel. He was absolutely worth the wait as we were instantly in love with him.
Later that year we drove several hours to pick up our second Papillon, Juliette. We were sold on the breed!

Entering the Agility Ring
In 2001 Karmen and I became involved in agility. We'd seen the sport on TV and thought the dogs were impressive to say the least. We found a training center which was over an hour drive from our home and we signed up.
Gabriel and Juliette were naturals and loved the sport far more that we could have imagined. We have had tremendous fun training them and competing with them in agility.

Expanding Our Knowledge

It was from our love for Gabriel and Juliette that we became interested in everything Papillon related. It wasn't long before we found ourselves attending every local dog show, attending specialty shows, and meeting breeders from around the world. We enjoyed studying the breed standard, pedigrees and various lines.

To share with others some of what we learned, we created the Papillon Information Site, which is one of the largest websites on Papillon information. We also studied coat color genetics in the breed and compiled our research to write a genetics paper. Our research has been published in multiple publications and has been translated into several languages. Much of our research can be found on our Papillon Information Site.

Entering the Show Ring

In 2001 we decided that our third Papillon would be a show dog. We studied the breed and met many successfurl show breeders. One of the first breeders we met was Elyse Vandermolen of Clearlake Papillons. She became a wonderful friend and educator. We admired Elyse's dogs because they were healthy, well built dogs, with lots of breed type.
In 2004 we saw Elyse showing a fantastic little Papillon named Clearlake Widowmaker. Andrew, as we'd later re-name him, was exactly what we wanted in a show dog. We were very fortunate because several months later, Elyse allowed us to purchase Andrew as our first show dog.
In 2006 our second show dog, Ferris, came to live with us. Ferris is from the same kennel as Andrew and goes back to Andrew's sire. Both Andrew and Ferris finished their AKC Championship with little showing. We hope these boys will set the type and quality of Aleda-Letit Papillons.

Breeding Goals

In the future, we hope to produce quality Papillons who will be sucessful in the show and agility rings, as well as be healthy and loving pets.

We have joined in partnership with Gails Papillons because we believe we can breed better dogs, while keeping our numbers down, if we work together with like-minded breeders.

Aleda-Letit is one kennel, not two. We are sisters, working together. Aleda (a LEE da) means "small and winged one" and Letit (let eat) is a colloquial Croatian word which means "to fly".

A Dog's Life

While Karmen and I co-own all of the Papillons, some are my pets and some are hers.

All of our dogs live in our home like true family members. Aside from dog shows, regularly go to the beach and on long trail walks with the dogs. The Gallery section of this website gives a little more insight into how our dogs live and are treated.
