Lemon sable Papillons are an extremely pale shade of yellow or cream with
interspersed black hairs. Unlike the other shades of sable, a lemon sables'
color is produced by a separate gene which dilutes the red pigmented hairs
to a pale yellow or cream shade. This diultion gene doesn't affect the black hairs so that is why
lemon sables still have black hairs.
This light coat color is caused by the same gene that produces the light shade of color in a
lemon Papillon. The difference between a lemon sable and a lemon Papillon
is that a former has black hairs whereas a lemon has no black hairs.
Like lemon Papillons, lemon sable Papillons are usually born white or
off-white.
Unlike typical sables who lighten with age, lemon sables darken with age. Even though they darken with age,
lemon sable Papillons will always remain a pale cream shade. They will not darken to a typical sable shade of red.
